Full Erasmus Mundus (EMJM) scholarships will be available for the best applicants in student intake 2027. Application fees are not collected from IMLEX applicants.

We welcome applications from persons who hold a Bachelor’s degree for example in Information Technology, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electronical Engineering, Photonics, or in a closely related field. IMLEX application procedure, step-by-step

The online application form will be available on Studyinfo during the application period. The form must be filled in and the required enclosures need to be attached (in pdf format) with the online application by the given deadline.  At the application state we require only scanned enclosures uploaded to the application form. Paper copies are not required during the application period.

Required documents, as electronic copies

  1. Application form, filled in the studyinfo system
  2. B.Sc. degree certificate or equivalent, and an English translation of it, see admission requirements
  3. An official transcript of academic records, and an English translation of it, see admission requirements
  4. English language certificate, see admission requirements
  5. Two recommendation letters. There is no specific template for the recommendation letters.
  6. Motivation letter; applicant is required to answer a set of questions specified in the admission requirements*
  7. Curriculum vitae. CV must be presented in chronological order and must not have gaps longer than 12 months during the recent five years
  8. A copy of passport/ID card
  9. A motivation video; applicant is required to answer a set of questions specified in the admission requirements**. The video format must be one of the following: x-m4v, x-matroska, x-msvideo, mpeg, ogg, webm, 3gpp, 3gpp2, mp4, MP2T, quicktime, x-ms-wmv, x-ms-vob. Maximum duration of the video is 2 minutes, and maximum size of the video file is 1 GB.

* Set of questions to be answered in motivation letter:
Reflect your present situation and background to IMLEX curriculum and prerequisites;
Which IMLEX courses and/or semesters you find the most interesting and why;
Ideas of applied research related to IMLEX academic content;
Professional development plan
Applicants are allowed to use generative AI when making the motivation letter.

Please note that paper copies are not needed, if the applicant submits the electronic copies in the application system. If application documents are mailed in by a third party, e.g. your university officials, the admissions office will forward the documents to the programme coordinator for evaluation.  These documents can be mailed to Admissions Office:

It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents reach the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) by the deadline. UEF does not process any application documents that have arrived after the deadline.

After applying

The university will carry out the student selection and inform the applicants on their admission results in April 2027, at the latest, by email. Non-admitted students will be notified about the selection results and the appeal procedures by email.

Applicants must confirm their study place electronically in Studyinfo by latest on 13 July 2027. Admitted EMJM scholarship holders must confirm their study place electronically via Studyinfo as soon as possible, within 14 days of receiving the notification of admission.
IMLEX studies will begin at the beginning of September 2027 at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu campus.

According to One study place per term provision, a student may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland during one academic term. This rule applies to all higher education.

A student cannot be granted a new right to study resulting in a Master of Science degree in Computer Science if they already have a valid right to study in the degree programme resulting in a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Eastern Finland. 

Conditional acceptance

Admission is conditional if the applicant applies to UEF with 1) a degree that is not completed during the application period or if 2) the degree cannot be electronically authenticated (verified) at the time of application. In such cases, applicants must submit officially certified copies of the final degree certificate and transcript of records by the deadlines specified by the UEF. Applicants remain conditionally admitted until the required certified documents have been provided.
Electronic verification of educational documents is strongly recommended; paper documents by post are also accepted. Applicants must use the document submission methods specified by the UEF. For detailed instructions, please see the webpage Verification of official educational documents.
DEADLINES for document verification:
Verified educational documents must be submitted to UEF by 31.5.2027. Graduating students: The final educational documents must be submitted by 30.7.2027. If the applicant does not deliver their documents by the given deadline, their study right will be cancelled.

In addition, all accepted students must sign the IMLEX student agreement, and non-EU/EEA students without an EMJM scholarship or a Full Consortium fee waiver must pay the required Consortium fees before they can register as a student.
